FASCO Files Complaint Against Broward County Sheriff's Office

The Florida Association of Security Companies (FASCO) filed a complaint with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, Division of Licensing (DOL) against the Broward County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) this week. BCSO has assigned non-sworn community service aides to perform security services at the cruise hub, Port Everglades. The law clearly requires agencies and individuals providing security services under contract to be licensed under Chapter 493 of the Florida Statutes, unless they are working as off duty law enforcement officers. FASCO filed this complaint to protect the ability of our members and others in our industry to compete fairly in the marketplace. No private business or citizen should face unfair and unlawful competition from any public agency acting outside its authority and misusing its resources in the public trust.
